Kingston and Sandisk 4gb Mini Sdhc Cards

In this review we have tried to highlight the basic terminology and some basic knowledge one should be aware of before purchasing any memory cards. These days every other digital device which stores any form of data has a memory card feature and you will find this guide helpful if you find it hard to understand the tech-lingo.

Kingston and Sandisk brings 4gb mini sdhc cards with huge capacity of multimedia content storage with optimum performance, available in three classes. They are Compatible with miniSDHC and SDHC host devices. These cards come with an adapter that turns them into full-size SDHC cards.

Capacity

This card is able to provide fast speed and large capacity needs such as digital imaging, music and video record/playback functions as well as mobile television and video games. The 4GB capacity can store up to more than 2,000 high-resolution pictures, more than 1,000 digital songs or up to 8 hours of MPEG 4 video.

Speed

SanDisk’s Mini SDHC product is a class 2 device: it delivers a minimum data transfer speed of 2MBps

while the Kingston Mini SDHC product is a class 4 device with a minimum data transfer speed of 4MBps.

Compatibility Issues

Remember, SD High Capacity (SDHC) card is the new SD memory card based on the SDA

2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00

specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities – 4GB-32GB.

Because SDHC works differently then standard SD cards, this new format is not

backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices.

For compatibility check, look for the SDHC logo on cards and host devices (mobile phones, cameras,

camcorders, etc.)

Mini Laptop Review

Laptop Notebooks Are Here To Stay

Laptop notebooks are more than a fad. They’re nearly as popular as blackberries and iPods and pull in a close second behind the traditional PCs. More often than not, convenience is the motive for having and using a laptop.

Businesses utilize laptop notebooks as a matter of daily life on the road. Laptops have the capabilities of the formerly more powerful PCs that adorn the desks of business men and women by the millions. With the right software and hi-speed connectivity you can pull up your desktop right off your PC and do business as if you were in the office. Laptop notebooks enable people to accomplish a lot of work at home and more importantly, while on the road traveling from place to place. Formerly dead time in the motel can now be turned into useful hours of virtual meetings, emails and production.

Students are extremely blessed with the availability of affordable electronic notebooks. Very few collegians would be caught on campus without a laptop. School assignments, calendars, email contacts and a host of other functions are maintained while attending classes and the free minutes in between. It’s as common to see opened laptops on the tables in the classrooms now as it used to be to see a pen in hand and a pad of paper. Manufacturers like Dell have zeroed in on the college student as a market by producing a myriad of colored laptop covers and even mini-laptops. The smaller versions are literally smaller than a pad of paper and can be purchased, especially in student computer buying programs, for less than a third of the regular-sized laptop.

Laptops are finding their way into the hands of folks from all walks of life that no longer want to be tied to a desktop. Every function that a desktop can perform can be duplicated by the right laptop and the expectation now is to be able to get up and go. Homemakers would rather spend the afternoon in the park with their children while they’re doing some online shopping, teachers thoroughly enjoy a few free moments to grade essays while in the coffee shop, and salesmen would rather check their incoming messages over lunch than back at the office.

Police officers are now using laptops in record numbers. They’re usually on the high end technologically and can handle and store enormous amounts of data. These are mounted in the cruisers for instant access to bureau of motor vehicle records and criminal histories. The normal emailing and data searches can be made as well.

Laptop notebooks are far more affordable than they were a decade ago. For less than a thousand dollars a highly efficient notebook can be brought into service with incredible amounts of memory and hi-speed connectivity. Most laptops can be purchased for under $700 or $800 and will be all of the computer you’ll ever need.

Any computer is time sensitive at this point. Whenever new programming and software is developed, it eventually begins to outstrip the laptop’s, or any computer’s, inherent capabilities. Many experts believe that a PC or a laptop life expectancy, as far as being able to keep abreast of the ever-improving technology, is about five to six years. After that, it’s time to upgrade to the next wave of the future.

Netbooks : Taking the market share away from laptops

ASUS generated a lot of buzz with its Eee-branded line of products, starting with the Eee PC Netbook

and is responsible for introducing the Netbook to the PC market as an affordable and simple laptop

solution for students.

A Netbook (a portmanteau of the words Internet and notebook) is a small portable laptop computer

designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet.

By late 2008, Netbooks had begun to take market share away from laptops. It is estimated that almost

thirty times more Netbooks were sold in 2008 (11.4 mn) than in 2007 (400,000).

After the release of the ASUS’s Eee PC, almost every major PC vendor HP, Sony, MSI, Toshiba, Acer,

Dell have released competing models. Some companies design them in different directions away from

the original Eee PC and they got bigger, more powerful, more expensive, and have even become luxury

items. Furthermore, Windows XP has dominated over Linux as the installed operating system.

ASUS range

1.    ASUS Eee PC 701 4G: with Xandros version of Linux, had a 4GB solid state drive, a small 7in

screen, 512MB of RAM and an Intel Celeron M CPU, also available in a variety of color at a cost of $349.

2.    ASUS Eee PC 900: With slightly bigger 8.9in screen, but it has more storage and RAM and is

available with either or operating system versions.

3.    ASUS Eee PC 901: based on the Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) CPU, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n

wireless networking with 6-cell battery, sleeker but heavier model has an 8.9in screen, 1GB of RAM and

was available with either Linux (20GB storage) or Windows XP (12GB storage)  operating systems

installed. It cost $472.

4.    ASUS Eee PC 1000H: with its spinning hard drive it gives little more speed than those solid state

drive-based models. Features are same as Eee PC 901 with 10in screen and little closer to a

conventional notebook but it only cost $509.

5.    ASUS Eee PC 1000HE: with new “Chiclet keyboard” that provides wider gaps between the keys to

improve key travel, it includes a 10in screen, 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM and an Intel Atom N270

1.6GHz CPU, cost $654.

HP range

HP was the 2nd vendor after ASUS to introduce a Netbook to the market.

1.    HP 2133 Mini-Note PC aims at business users, not students. It had an 8.9in screen, a VIA C7-M

CPU (1.6GHz), 2GB of RAM, a huge 160GB hard drive, and it was the first Netbook to run Windows Vista

Business edition. It also had an ExpressCard/54 slot, making it a desirable choice for users wanting to

use a 3G data card. It cost $499 at release.

2.    HP Mini 1001TU: with $399 price tag, smaller and cooler than the 2133 Mini-Note, it is based on an

Intel Atom N270 CPU (1.6GHz), 1GB of RAM, a 60GB hard drive and 802.11g wireless networking but a

bigger 10.2in screen.

3.    HP Mini 2140: features are similar to the 2133 Mini-Note but an Intel Atom CPU instead of a VIA

C7-M CPU and the option to use Windows Vista Business or Windows XP.

MSI Wind U100

MSI was the 3rd vendor to enter the Netbook market. With its white color, a 10in screen, an 80GB hard

drive, 1GB RAM, ran Windows XP, and Intel’s Atom N270 CPU (1.6GHz) it provides excellent battery life

through its 6-cell battery. Its price was $509 at launch.

Acer Range

The next vendor was Acer with its Linpus-based Aspire One Netbooks.

Acer Aspire One: It has an 8.9in screen, weighed only 900 grams, 512MB of RAM available at a cost of

$436. It has an 8GB solid state drive installed, but also included two SD memory card slots but there is

also a Windows XP version available with 1.5GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive for $509.

Acer Aspire One AOD 150: It is a 10.2in version with 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard

drive, Windows XP, but it does have the best screen quality for a Netbook.

Dell range

1.    Dell Inspiron Mini 9: It has an 8.9in screen, a solid state drive (16GB), an Intel Atom N270 CPU

(1.6GHz), and 1GB of RAM. Despite its poor design, the Mini 9 was the unit of choice for mobile phone

vendors.

2.    Dell Inspiron Mini 12: It has a 10.2in screen, uses an Intel Atom Z530 (1.6GHz) CPU rather than an

N270 model, runs Windows XP, 1GB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive. Due to the 3-cell battery, the Mini

12 has poor battery life, and at $618 it is an expensive unit considering you does not even get 802.11n

wireless networking.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10 Netbook is more in the news because the Department of Education and

Training’s choose it for teachers and students. It’s a deal set to be worth $109 million and will roll out

267,000 units.

The Lenovo Netbook was chosen over other has nice styling, runs Windows XP, has a 160GB hard

drive, a 10in screen, and 1GB of RAM. Those specifications are standard, but the notebook has an

ExpressCard/34 expansion slot. The IdeaPad S10 does offer increased drive capacity which may be of

benefit when running memory intensive applications.

Toshiba NB100

It is an 8.9in, Windows XP-based Netbook with an Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) CPU, 1GB of RAM and a

120GB hard drive. Added advantage “the sleep-and-charge USB port” for $520 it is a little overpriced, but

it is a convenient laptop to use while travelling.

Fujitsu M1010

The M1010 is small 8.9in screen, but feature-rich, as it includes an ExpressCard/34 slot. It is based on

an Intel Atom N270 CPU (1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, and has a 60GB hard drive. It costs $509.

Sony P-series

The Sony Vaio P comes preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Business, it

has an 8″ LED-backlit display with resolution of 1600×768, weighs 1.4-1.7 pounds, with either a 1.33

GHz Intel Atom Z520 or a 1.6 GHz Atom Z530 processor, and 2GB DDR2 memory with 533 MHz FSB,

64GB or 128GB solid state drive storage. An integrated webcam is located on the upper right corner. It

also features built-in GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11 b/g/n wireless, mobile broadband, and an Intel Graphics

Media Accelerator 500 video card. It is available in four color options; Black, Red, Green, and White.

Samsung Range

1.    Samsung NC10: It uses a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 10.2″ screen with 1024×600 pixels

and includes 1 GB of memory 93% keyboard size, 160 GB hard drive and 6-celled battery. It also

includes an SD card slot, supporting MMC, SD and SDHC cards for additional storage.

2.    The Samsung NC20: With LED-backlit 12.1″ screen it uses a VIA Nano ULV Processor U2250

(1.3+GHz, 800MHz), and includes 1 GB RAM, a full-size keyboard, SATA 160 GB storage.

The company claims both Netbooks kill bacteria with its anti-bacterial Silver Nano ions coating on the

keyboard.

Advice On Using Mini Storage While In College

Mini storage units can be a great place for college students to store their belongings at a reasonable price. College dorms and apartments are often small and limited on storage space. It can be much easier to keep your less-frequently used items off-site in a storage unit.

First, get rid of anything you really do not need. Going away to college is often the first time a young adult will move all of their belongings, especially if the family has stayed in the same home for a number of years. Now is the time to throw out all the extra items you may have accumulated over the years. Keep anything with significant sentimental value, but many childhood items such as toys, books, clothing, or stuffed animals can be donated or sold.

Next, make an inventory list of everything you intend to put into your mini storage. Think about how often you will need to use each item. Is it something you will need again next semester or term? Keep all items together based on how frequently they will be accessed. This will make it much easier when you are unloading the boxes at your storage facility and trying to decide where to put everything. Keep frequently-used items toward the front of the storage unit.

Once you have your inventory list, sorted by frequency of use, it can also be a helpful plan for how to pack your stuff for the move. You can usually start packing the less-frequently used items a few weeks before the move date. This allows you to get started on packing without having to worry about packing away something you may still need. Keep daily-use items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, or hairbrushes out for packing into a separate duffel bag, backpack, or toiletry case. Then you can just throw these items in the bag as you walk out the door for your move. This way you will be able to find your toothbrush the next day without having to dig through boxes of stuff.

When packing, you can’t go wrong by using strong boxes, preferably waterproof if you will be storing your belongings for a long period of time. You may be able to get away with using regular cardboard boxes if you will only be keeping your items in the storage unit over summer vacation or at another time when rain is unlikely to fall. Pack heavy items such as textbooks in smaller boxes. If you must use large boxes for your books, be sure to only fill part of each box with books, then fill in the rest with clothing or other light items. Ideally, you want each box to be easy to lift and approximately the same weight, rather than having a few heavy boxes and a lot of lighter ones. Boxes that are all the same size will be much easier to stack in your mini storage unit. Be sure to fill every box to the top so they do not get crushed when more boxes are stacked on top.

In the days leading up to your move, start preparing for the actual move day. Be sure to charge all cellphones and laptop since the chargers may be packed in boxes on the day of the move. Purchase bottles of water, sports drinks, fruit, or protein bars to keep you and your friends hydrated and fueled through the entire moving process. Time is often limited on the actual moving date because you will be rushing around to get everything out of your dorm or apartment and over to the storage unit before the truck is due back to the rental company. If you are using your own (or a friend’s) truck, you may be able to move at a more leisurely pace, but it is always convenient to have drinks and snacks on hand for when you don’t feel like making a food run.

Of course, before leaving your apartment or dorm room, do one last walkthrough to make sure you haven’t left anything behind. Check the bathroom for any toiletries you may have used on the move day. Be sure the place is cleaned to the landlord’s specifications so you can get your security deposit refunded. When you are done cleaning, pack all of your cleaning supplies in the same box or boxes so you can easily drop them off at your storage and retrieve them when it’s time to move again at the end of the next semester.

Pink Laptops Gaining Popularity

It is hard to imagine a world without computers. Computers have come a long way from the huge machines that used to occupy the science labs in huge research facilities and military complexes; they are now the personal computers that adorn most offices and homes around the world. When the large computers were replaced by personal computers or PCs, the way the world worked changed forever due to the computers adding precision and expertise to someone’s work. They revolutionised products and services across the globe and were extremely quick at doing so. However, the advent of personal computers was not the end of the revolution, after these were laptops which were miniature versions of the PC created to enable mobile computing. Laptops were first created by the company Toshiba in conjunction with others such as Sony. They shrunk the PC parts that came with regular computers and compressed them into a portable mini-computer. These were also a bit bulky at first but nothing compared to the original computers and now laptops are ultra-thin and ultra-light while at the same time packing considerably more power than their bulky counterparts. Today, Netbooks seem to be the new craze and are even smaller and more compact than today’s laptops, they are ideal for those looking for a more mobile and yet still sufficient device to browse the internet on and to compile documents. There is no telling where the computer revolution is heading next but the laptop computer is here to stay and their innovation is reaching new heights every season. A popular trend at the moment is pink laptops which seem to be attracting a lot more interest. The sensation caused by the arrival of pink notebooks in the market is no small achievement. Computer manufacturers seem to have capitalised on the love that many people, usually females, have to the colour pink. It’s not only laptops that are popular in pink however, shoes, phones, cars and MP3 players are also all very popular with pink lovers. Computer manufactures like Dell pioneered the art of allowing customers to actually order a computer directly from the warehouse. Together with this new option, they also offered customers the chance to customise their orders for their exact computing needs rather than simply being stuck with whatever the company was offering. This meant that the buyer could now request the specific memory size, screen size, resolution, hard drive size and even the colour. Pink laptops have been a popular choice thanks to pioneering techniques by companies such as Dell and many people find them very attractive to look at. Creators of the pink laptops had high school teens in mind because students have now joined the computer revolution. The computing needs of teens seem to gravitate mainly around gaming and online social networking. Gamers have given laptops, especially pink laptops, a demand that has been unprecedented since the advent of Motorola’s pink Razr phone. With this in mind, it looks as though pink gadgets will be around for a long time to come.

Nowadays, laptops are very thin and very light and are therefore ideal for carrying around with you. There is no way of knowing where the computing revolution will be heading next but it looks as though the laptop computer is here to stay. Pink notebooks have become very popular and there are now many other pink products on the market.

Are Netbooks the Perfect Student Laptops?

Netbooks are everywhere, on buses, on trains, on planes… and in the classroom. It seems the little Netbook has come out of nowhere to become extremely popular overnight.

But what is a Netbook?

Netbooks usually have screens of 10 inches or less, runs Windows or Linux and generally sell for well under $500. As its name indicates, the Netbook‘s main purpose is to keep its owner conveniently connected to the net – anywhere, anytime.

First introduced by Asustek when it launched the first Eee PC in the fall of 2007. But it was only in the last year when we saw the explosive growth of these so-called mini-laptops. Now we have many computer companies such as HP, Dell, Lenovo… all jumping on this craze for a small portable laptop. So much so, that Netbooks now is the fastest growing segment of the laptop industry and is expected to reach 139 million units by 2013.

Why is there a sudden popularity for the small Netbook? Perhaps the answer lies mainly in our constant quest for mobility. We want a portable device that will keep us connected to the Internet and yet be small and light enough to be carried around all day. A truly ultra-portable device that keeps us connected with family, friends and the web.

The next question you have to ask: why do Netbooks make for great student laptops? If the above reasons aren’t enough, try the following:

Size

Netbooks are small with 10 inch displays or less, which make them ideal for students. Plus, they are usually very lightweight – around 2 or 3 pounds. They are compact enough to tuck into your school bag or backpack, and small enough to carry around all day without developing a hernia.

Portability

As mentioned above because the Netbook is so small and compact, it is very portable. A very mobile device that we can use to stay connected to the web and friends. Connectability is one of the main features – you are connected to the web at all times.

Sturdiness

Most Netbooks are designed to be sturdy and tough. They can take a few hard knocks and still keep on working. Students are not exactly the most gentle creatures on the planet, so a sturdy tough machine is needed to handle the demands put upon it.

Battery Life

Because of their small size, you will usually get better battery life than with a regular sized laptop. This is important to the student since you may have to go all day without a chance to re-charge the battery. Long lasting battery life makes the Netbook the perfect student laptop.

Performance

Although small, these mini-laptops still sports some very impressive specs. Many now come with at least 1 Gig of RAM and Intel Atom processors. There are even some with Solid State Hard Drives which make them more durable and less likely to be damaged. Most use Windows XP – newer models debuting this year with the Nvidia’s Ion platform may have Vista or Windows 7, but still don’t expect the kind of performance you would get from a regular laptop.

Storage

While storage on Netbooks is constantly increasing, it is still nowhere near the kind of storage you will find on a regular sized laptop. Usually, most devices have around 30 or 60 Gig hard drives which should be adequate for most student’s needs. Many newer Netbooks have 160 Gigs of storage.

Price

Perhaps, the main reason Netbooks make the perfect student laptops is the low price. Students are usually on a very limited budget and the low price-tag is a perfect fit. Many perfectly adequate machines are now priced in the $300 to $500 range – while many good ones go for well under $300. Plus, prices are steadily dropping so almost any student can now afford a Netbook.

As you can plainly see, the Netbook does have many features to make it a perfect student laptop: small size, very portable, excellent connections, very sturdy, long battery life, good performance, adequate storage and most of all, a very affordable price almost any student can take advantage of. Overall, Netbooks are well suited for the classroom and the student.

Las Vegas Based Technology Company Revolutionizes Mobile Computing With Lilliputian Laptop

Las Vegas Based Technology Company Revolutionizes Mobile Computing with Lilliputian Laptop

 By Rodney Marvel

Author, e-media Direct

Mobile computing will never be the same with the advent of Seamless Wi-Fi’s S-Gen UMPC, or Ultra Mobile Personal Computer.  In an era when computer manufacturers are developing smaller PC solutions to meet the nomadic nature of today’s consumers, the S-Gen stands out as one of the most robust, yet smallest, micro PC’s available on the market. It has already made appearances on the Montel Williams Show and at numerous shows in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.

Ultra mobile is a bit of an understatement.  The S-Gen weighs a mere 16 ounces and measures in with a length of 6.5 inches, a width of 3.8 inches, and a depth of 1.25 inches.  Despite its diminutive size, this “pocket” PC comes complete with a near full size keyboard, TFT touch screen display, and 20 GB hard drive.  Of course, it also has all of the bells and whistles of other mobile products, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular wireless technology.  Maybe surprising to some would be the fact that the S-Gen also features an integrated GPS system with internal antennae.

Of course, being able to map your location and see your destination is only useful if you have enough battery power to get you through to the end of your trip.  Fear not, the Seamless Wi-Fi S-Gen has a battery life in excess of 8 hours.  That is roughly 4 times longer than traditional laptop battery life and double the endurance of higher capacity notebook batteries.  When you consider just how many functions the S-Gen is capable of, you will realize that you need every bit of those 8 hours.  The S-Gen is essentially a tri-band cell phone, MP3 player, GPS navigation system, and mobile computer all wrapped up into one very portable package.

The S-Gen is so power-packed that it has been featured in PC Magazine, Laptop Magazine, The Mercury News, and The New York Post.  Let’s not forget the S-Gen’s reviews on DL.TV, Geekzone, and ZDNet just to name a few.  All of this positive publicity can only strengthen Seamless Wi-Fi’s sales numbers when the S-Gen officially launches on July 1, 2008.  The estimated retail price is $1,195, a very reasonable value when you consider the four or five devices that this unit will replace when you purchase it.

Recently, at the “Money Show” in Las Vegas, Nevada, Seamless Wi-Fi demonstrated the many features of the S-Gen to businessmen from all over the world.  One of the demonstrations that seemed to surprise some was the ability to take a SIM card from any wireless phone, pop it into the S-Gen and immediately begin making calls.  The company received a lot of interest while at the show and is very optimistic about the sales potential of this one-of-a-kind product.

Seamless Wi-Fi, Inc. (SMWF), a development stage company, is an Internet company that is developing cutting edge technologies to create and provide new and innovative products and services for both businesses and consumers.  The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, has three operating subsidiaries, and engages in the development and marketing of Internet communications products and services in the United States.  The company provides wireless Internet access service known as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) in Wi-Fi hot pots. It also develops software program that provides Wi-Fi users with Seamless-Secure Internet browsing, which encrypts the user’s Wi-Fi signal.

Seamless Wi-Fi recently announced the impending launch of a big brother to the S-Gen, the S-NBK-1 mini-notebook.  The S-NBK-1, which is available now, contains a 10.2” TFT screen, 1.6 GHZ processor, 512 MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and Windows® XP operating system.  The company has already launched the S-NBK-1 with a MSRP in the mid $500′s, which they feel is very competitively priced for the growing mini-notebook market.
