Acer Aspire One D150-1920 Notebook- It’s Small; It’s Beautiful
This Aspire One D Series notebook is powered by an Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz Processor and a 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM. This delivers an amazing performance that has me hooked on to it for hours. The size of the keyboard is compact and the key spacing is almost perfect.
In terms of storage, the 160 GB hard drive lets me save all the files that I want. Its external memory card slots also support most flash card types. I also find the 10.1″ WSVGA display of this Aspire One notebook quite impressive. The picture quality with images rich in color is more than what I could’ve asked for. The display is backed by an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The audio output of this Acer LU.S560B.103 Notebook is well supplemented by two integrated stereo speakers.
I’ve been tired of the poor networking quality of the laptops I’ve used in the past. But this Acer Netbook laptop, with built-in Wi-Fi and fast Ethernet, has brought all my networking problems to an end. Browsing the web, managing e-mails, messaging, making VoIP calls, streaming videos, and viewing photos have all become simple, to say the least.
I think the most prominent feature of this Acer mini laptop is its six-hour battery run-time offered by a six-cell Lithium-ion battery. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (SP3) is pre-installed on this Acer laptop computer.
This pretty pink laptop looks quite trendy, and is certainly affordable They say ”great things come in small packages”- it’s very true for this Netbook.

HP Mini 2140 Netbook Review
I personally absolutely love the portability of the HP Mini 2140. It may seem a little small at first, but I quickly got used to it. The 10” is bright and the metal exterior seems to make this Netbook standout from the rest. While on my trip to Europe, I found that this was really the best choice for me simply because of its size.
One of the best things about this Netbook is that it is extremely good for internet users. My biggest thing I do on my Netbook is connect to the internet and surf the web. As soon as I pulled it out of the books, turned it on, it fired right up to the internet through Wi-Fi. I have never had any problems with it connecting at any coffee shops or networks at the hotels I have been to.
Another great feature to this laptop is that the 6-cell battery it comes with recharges extremely quickly. It takes me just a matter of minutes to get it back up to 90% from about 10%. I don’t typically let it run out of juice, nor do I charge it to 100%. Even during long flights, it seems to last a long while.
With the size of the screen, I have left my resolution at 1024 x 576. Even at that resolution, it can be a little difficult to read at times depending on the website you are at. However, the largest resolution is 1366 x 768 and I have tried it out. Unfortunately, it makes me squint and hurts my eyes after a while. So while it is pretty in appearance, it is probably not as functional as the 1024 x 576 resolution for the majority of the people. And no, I do not have terrible eyes.
The feel of the keyboard is extremely nice. The keyboard is somewhat small, but I have large hands and still able to type on the keyboard without much difficulty at all. I type faster than average and still able to do most of the typing without much error. This means that for either a female or a male with medium sized hands would probably find this keyboard to be perfectly fine without any problems at all. The keys themselves seem to have a feel to them that is extremely nice. They feel “soft” is the only way I can describe it. The keys themselves are probably more comfortable than a standard desktop keyboard. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this Netbook!

Htc Shift Preview – Function Over Form
Combining some features previously thought impossible to install in a mobile phone whilst trying to maintain portability, HTC are aiming squarely at the market of business-centric handsets with no compromise on trimming or space-saving.
With a fingerprint sensor, 40GB HDD Drive, 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, the HTC Shift is certainly well-equipped and more closely resembles a mini-laptop than a smartphone. With a 7-inch wide touchscreen and adjustable screen angle allowing for easy typing, there should be no difficulty in reading any your emails.
Coming with Windows Vista Business, as opposed to the usual Windows Mobile 6 that’s becoming commonplace in the smartphone market these days, HTC are ensuring that the Shift has enough features in its locker that currently will not be available anywhere else.
Though it’s to be expected on a device like this, the sheer wealth of connection options available are frankly-mind-boggling. Included are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G HSDPA for high speed data transfers and video calls (which are transferred via a high-quality 1.2 Mega Pixel camera.)
As the HTC Shift is packed with such a wide-array of features, you would expect it to be no lightweight dandy and you’d be right. Weighing in at a hefty 800g (that’s almost 10 Nokia 6300’s) this is one mobile phone that is barely pocketable, justifying its status as a mini-laptop.
Though in terms of features the Shift would seem to have all the bases covered, there are some critical criteria that need to be met if the Shift is going to have any chance of success. The battery and processor need to fare much-better than the recent disappointing HTC TYTN II.
The price also is an issue when you take into consideration that a mid-range laptop can be found for under £700 and that the UMPC market is already well established, with big players such as the Sony Vaio UX1XN involved. The expected SIM Free retail price of the Shift is expected to be around the £840 mark, possibly in order to lighten your pocket enough to cope with the weight, which is similar to the Sony’s price. Of course there is one big advantage to the HTC, the fact that it does not require plug in equipment to access the internet where no Wi-Fi is available. The fact it is a GSM unit mean that you will also be able to buy it on contract, significantly reducing the cost.
Overall this is an impressive looking model and although it is quite hefty, it’s good to see a manufacturer concentrating on features rather than appeal, although to be fair, it’s not a bad looking beast.
The HTC Shift is due to be launched mid-January 08 and you should first expect it to be available on O2 and Vodafone.

The Htc Shift – the All-in-one Mobile Broadband Solution
Mobile computing made easy
There’s no doubt that mobile broadband is a cool thing. I’ve gone on at great length about how it’s changing the world in 2008, and it is. The internet is becoming something we don’t just sit at a desk to use, but something that we carry round with us, in our pockets. Well, since laptops are still quite big, nearly in our pockets. Maybe in some kind of bag-type arrangement. The point is, though, that with the advent of mobile broadband, people are finding that they not only can use broadband wherever they are, they want to use it wherever they are.
So, the desire to use mobile broadband is there, but what technologies exist to let people actually use it. The one that’s most prevalent at the moment is, essentially, a case of taking a laptop, plugging in a USB Modem with mobile broadband sim card, and going for it. And that is a very, very simple solution, as the steps are 1) get USB Modem; 2) plug in; 3) enjoy. But some people want a solution even simpler, one that they just fire up, straight out of the box, and go for it.
That’s where the HTC Shift comes in!
Essentially, the HTC Shift, if you want to tie it down to one particular category, is a UMPC, and Ultra-Mobile PC. So, think mini-laptop. And it really is, too, because it’s powered by Windows Vista. Yes, that’s proper Windows Vista, no compromises here! Well… I say that, but there is one… but it’s a positive compromise! You see, the HTC Shift is powered by Vista, but it also uses a stripped down version of Windows Mobile. The importance of that is that you can move about with it, in-between working sessions when you have it in full-on laptop mode, you can switch down to low power mode, still check your emails, and so on, but drastically increase your battery life.
It’s things like that that make the HTC Shift such a powerful mobile broadband device. There’s no two-ways about it, with a spec list like this baby has, it’d be hardly surprising if it conquers the online world. Sure, it has competition from mobile phones like the iPhone and the vast range of laptops on the market, but nothing comes close to providing this level of internet speed with this level of portability. Want to see for yourself? Compare mobile broadband packages with, for example, the iPhone, and you’ll see what I mean!

Looking For a Cheap Laptop? Try Refurbished
Refurbished laptops are laptops that could possibly have had a problem or were just sent back to the factory because more storage space was needed for a computer shop or the laptop was unwanted by someone. No matter what the reason was for it being sent back, all laptops are put through tests to confirm their reliability and to make certain that they are at a level were they can be sold to the public. The main advantages of buying a refurbished laptop are that they are cheaper than the alternatives; whilst they are just as reliable as the alternatives, or could possibly be more reliable depending on if the alternative is the laptop being new or used. These advantages then make buying refurbished laptops the better choice than buying a laptop new or used.
Buying a used laptop may actually prove to be cheaper (in some cases), however faults could be present and it would not have been put through the same tests as a refurbished laptop to prove its efficiency and reliability because it is used.
An example of a refurbished laptop being cheaper is the Dell Inspiron Mini 910 Atom, which is being sold for £187.99 at EuroPC, yet at a very popular supermarket, the same laptop is being sold at £229, meaning that, in this case, buying a refurbished laptop would have made a saving of over £40 and a margin of just under 20%, which on an even more expensive laptop, would make the saving even larger. This shows why buying a refurbished laptop really is the best choice.
All of this shows that if you are looking for a cheap laptop, buying a refurbished laptop is the best choice because it offers more value for money and is just as, if not more, reliable than buying a new laptop.
