Gateway LT2108u 10.1-Inch Netbook Review
Specifications: Gateway may be a relatively new player in the netbook market, but I must say that one of its latest netbook models (the Gateway LT2108u) is a pretty decent machine. It comes with the new Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and a 160GB hard drive. For graphics, this netbook has an Intel GMA 3150 graphics processor. Then there is the 10.1-inch LED back-lit screen (1024 x 600 resolution) and it also supports HD audio. This netbook model comes with the Windows 7 Starter OS.
Design: It was love at first sight when I first laid eyes on the red Gateway LT2108u. The netbook was mainly black in color except for the red external casing. Instead of having a boring smooth surface, the external lid has some faint patterns that give it an edge. This model measures at 10.17 x 7.28 x 0.99 inches (which is pretty thin even by netbook standards). It weighs in at 2.76 pounds. All in all, it (the red model at least) is easily one of the most stylish and sleek netbooks around!
Features & Performance: The Gateway LT2108u can be considered as an entry-level or mid-range netbook if there such a thing. It has a multi-gesture track pad, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a digital memory card reader and 3 USB ports. However, this model does not come with Bluetooth. This can be solved by using a tiny (and very inexpensive) USB toggle. Like many Gateway computers, the Gateway LT2108u is very affordable. It currently retails for just around $299 per unit.

HP Mini 2140 Netbook Review
Price Range: $438 – 499
With a simple but modern layout, the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Mini’s all-aluminum casing puts it in a comparable category with Apple’s laptops, giving the HP Mini a cool status combined with a lightweight functionality. Including an ExpressCard / 54 slot and mobility-sized keyboard already previously praised in earlier models, the HP Mini gets a lot of design kudos. Unfortunately, HP also stumbled on a netbook faux paus with the inclusion of the standard narrow cursor touchpad and side-mounted control buttons. Again, big-handed users will find this an annoying cause of cursor mistakes and glitches.
Performance is supported by the standard Atom N270 processor, but usability is boosted by inclusion of a larger 1024 x 576 resolution screen. Unfortunately, you will need to spend a little more to get the $30 optional six-cell battery which is a requirement if you want more than 2 hours of battery life with your netbook package. The HP 6-cell actually performs better than competitors, giving a reported 7 hours of web-browsing time compared to other netbooks of similar battery size.
Weighing in at exactly 2.62 pounds and shaped with 1.05 inches in thickness, the HP Mini is clearly built for the traveler and mobile office user. Body dimensions in total come in at 10×10.3×6.5 inches (HWD). This design makes the Mini 2140 both smaller and lighter than comparable competition.
Ports included are the same as many other netbooks, however, you do get a 54mm ExpressCard slot. This gives you the flexibility to switch over to a wireless-broadband card, and increasing your operability outside of common Wi-Fi hotzones (in other words, you can work where you want to with Wi-Fi rather than the closest Starbucks).
Regarding the design of the keyboard, the flat-top keys are close to 10 percent smaller than a traditional laptop keyboard and the function keys are located where you would expect to find them normally. There is far less reliance on the overlapping function button code keys in the HP. The right Enter and Shift keys are big, so large-handed folks are going to be pleased with the setup. As we noted earlier, the cursor pad leaves room for improvement however.
Best Mini Netbooks – Mini Laptop Reviews – Samsung – Lenovo – Acer
Netbooks are very quickly gaining in popularity. It was not all that long ago that you could go to a computer store and see only one or two brands of netbooks. Now, netbooks are available in many different brand names and many different colors.
It is not always easy to choose the best netbook to suit your needs. It can be difficult to balance the portability and convenience of these computers with the specifications you need to make all your applications run.
To aid you in your decision of which one to buy, I have written a brief summary of a few of the better models. This is just a sample of the many models available, so make sure you do your homework before making a purchase.
First let’s take a look at the Samsung NC20. With a sleek twelve inch design, along with a 1.3 GHz VIA Nano processor, and a large trackpad, this netbook is a winner. It has great 1280 x 800 resolution, along with a full sized keyboard, making it easy to use. Another good thing about it is that it provides some much needed competition for the Intel CPU processor for mini laptops. It is one of the first units to sport a VIA Nano processor, which performs about as good as the Intel Atom. Competition is always healthy and brings the market to reasonable levels for everyone.
Another netbook to consider is the Lenovo Ideapad S12. The 1280 x 800 resolution is great for watching movies and has sharp colors so you do not have to strain your eyes. The Ideapad also has a full sized keyboard, making typing easy. The 6 cell battery is a great value added option with this unit, giving it more than five hours of battery life. Acccording to PC Magazine, the Lenovo Ideapad S12 is “…arguably the best 12-inch netbook available…”
Finally, we will take a look at the Acer AOD750. If you are tired of the plain black netbook, this is the one for you. It is available in four different colors to suit whatever tasted you may have. It has great resolution at 1366 x 768 pixels, and works great for high definition movies. Like the other brands mentioned, this one has a full sized keyboard. One advantage to this one is the LED backlighting. This saves energy and helps conserve the battery life, giving you longer and fuller enjoyment from it. The processor is a 1.33 GHz Atom Z520 from Intel. It’s lower clock can slow down performance a bit, but it is still a good unit overall. If you plan on running many applications with your netbook, you may want to consider purchasing one with a higher clock speed than this one.
It was only this year (2009) that the twelve inch netbooks came out in the mainstream and started gaining in popularity. Their full sized keyboards makes them much more useable that their ten inch counterparts. The balance of size and usability is key in becoming dominant in a market. These twelve inch netbooks have achieved that balance. In the coming years, expect to see them become main players in the computer marketplace.

Acer Aspire One Mini Laptop Review
Many people falsely assume that small laptops aren’t powerful laptops, or that small laptops could not possibly be as feature-rich as their larger competitors, but anyone who believes these false assumptions have not met the Acer Aspire One Mini Laptop. The Acer Aspire One AOD 150 Netbook Review
This Acer Aspire One AOD 150 review will show you that this little mini netbook computer is a great choice for your mobile computer needs. This model proves how portable, light weight and user friendly it is.
Acer does a great job making their products very affordable. You will find that the Acer Aspire One AOD 150 can fit into your budget quite nicely under $350. A stand out feature of the Acer Aspire One AOD 150 netbook model is how fast it is.
The 1.6 GHz N270 Intel Atom processor is a single core processor but that’s more than enough to handle the applications you need to use. This baby is installed with Windows XP Home with SP3 installed not Vista. Laptop users who have been lugging around those 17″ laptops will welcome the portability of the Acer Aspire One AOD 150.
It’s so lightweight, weighing in at 3lbs. The portability makes it great for using on a plane. It conveniently fits on those small tray tables. You can even sit it on your lap if you choose. Another plus for the Acer Aspire One AOD 150 netbook is that it is pretty quiet. The fan and hard disk make very little noise.
For some people size might matter. The keypad may be a little too small for some peoples liking, but nothing that can’t be gotten accustom to. Overall, the keyboard is pretty well designed. You still have the option to be able to attach a regular USB keyboard and mouse. The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is compatible.
The sound quality of the speakers is pretty good. Since the speakers are located under the netbook, it’s best not to sit it on a soft surface because you will muffle the sound. Also, you don’t want your computer to overheat due to the fan vents being in that area as well. The Acer Aspire One AOD 150 comes with 1GB RAM memory and can be upgraded to 2GB by replacing the SODIMM module. You can attach an external USB hard drive if you need more memory or you can upgrade the hard disk itself just as easily as the RAM memory.
This Acer Netbook should work great for your computer needs. You’ll be able to keep up with your social media, listen to music, get some work done or whatever you need to do on the go. It also comes in some great colors like Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue.
Using this computer when you travel or at home is a great choice no matter how you use it. With a 6 1/2 hour battery life, you won’t need to worry about plugging in for a while. Unlike its big brother, the Acer Aspire AOD 250, that only has a 3 hour battery.
The netbook does not come with system recovery disks. There is an Acer recovery utility pre-installed that will generate your recovery disks for you. Acer makes great quality mini netbooks with great affordability. No doubt about it! You will usually pay more for a different brand netbook computer with the same quality and specs and features.
This review of the Acer Aspire One AOD 150 should make your decision to get one simple! You’ll have a handy, portable and dependable little machine filled with some great features that’s just perfect for your needs.

Designer Laptops – Sony VAIO VGN-P530H-Q Lifestyle PC (Mini Laptop)
At the risk of sounding shallow and superficial, I confess that I’m one of those that may purchase a laptop purely based on its good looks. In the past decade, manufacturers like Apple and Sony have placed great emphasis on producing beautiful laptops. My job requires me to carry my laptop with me wherever I go so I have decided to get my self a mini laptop or netbook. If I am to carry a laptop with me wherever I go, it might as well look good, so I have purchased the super sleek Sony VAIO VGN-P530H/Q Lifestyle PC (black).
The Sony VAIO VGN-P530H/Q Lifestyle PC is thinner than most netbooks in the market. In fact, it is as thin as a mobile phone. One of my favorite features of this model is its sleek design. It is more rectangular than other netbooks in the market, measuring at 9.7 inches long and 4.8 inches wide. It weighs at just 1.4 pounds making it a truly portable mini laptop.
The Sony VAIO GN-P530H/Q Lifestyle PC is not all good looks and no substance. Hidden behind its beautiful design is a feature packed mini laptop. This netbook is also a GPS navigator. You can use this notebook to navigate and find directions even without an internet connection (in the USA and Canada). By using the GPS function you can find directions and navigate to your desired location within the 50 miles radios from where you are.
Instead of your regular LCD display, this model comes with a 1600 x 768 resolution that runs on Xbrite-eco technology with LEC back lights. The keyboard’s design is pretty refreshing as it is usually a challenge to do any heavy word processing on a netbook’s keyboard. The shift keys are very strategically located and typing on this Sony netbook feels very much like typing on a regular keyboard. It is powered by a 1.3Ghz Intel processor and comes with 2GB of RAM. It also comes with a 60GB ATA hard drive.

Mini Laptop – Mini Price
It’s a common perception that more sophisticated and compact the gadget, the more expensive it would be. But with the mini laptop industry in full swing, you’ll find some of the most well known brands offering amazingly reasonable prices for mini notebooks.
And this could be one of the reasons that make choosing a mini laptop difficult. Most of the leading manufacturers of laptops are offering them in the same price range. You can get mini notebooks from almost all the companies for not more than $400. Now what can be more confusing than this!
Several rival companies are trying desperately to attract customers to buy their product. They offer fancy accessories and throw in some extras to get your attention. And their advertising and marketing is also something that can be a deciding factor. Or maybe not! As they are all one better than the other!
With new companies joining the mini laptop bandwagon, competition has been ever-growing making it even more confusing for the consumers. But there’s no need to be confused or overwhelmed by the choices in the market. In fact we should take it as a sign of healthy competition that offers you some of the best choices.
Some companies might offer you an ultra small size laptop for a price range of $399 to $449 but you need to look into its configuration, the exterior and also its reliability before getting all excited and going for it.
These mini notebooks may look very sleek and compact but make sure that their keyboard is big enough to accommodate an adult hand. Apart from this you will need to look at the hard drive space. It could be only 4GB hard drive which could be very small to cater to your requirements. Also the screen size might be the ultra sleek 7 inch model but make sure they are readable.
There are better versions that can be slightly steep in price, say around $549 per unit, but they definitely fit most of the requirements of any laptop fanatic. With an amazing hard drive space ranging from 8GB to 64GB and a compatible Windows XP operating system, with screen size of 8.9 to 10 inches, makes it a perfect package for a small price.
With the increase in the screen size, the weight will also increase and also decrease the battery life. More over the overall size of the laptop will also increase. But you could compromise on these minor aspects when you can get a better resolution, screen size and hard drive space at such a low price in the mini laptop category.
